What will be the difference between the freely available rules and the printed book? Naturally the fluff will be in the printed version, but will the game be perfectly playable by ONLY using the printed rules, ie does it have campaign rules, character development charts etc? Is the free rules' layout designed separately or are those a similiar brainfart like what Wyrd did with its free rules that were basically illegible?

Silveri. The printed rulebook comes straight from the printed book, and it is fully playable. You will be able to download player aids (like squad sheets and templates) and it will be updated regularly with whatever errata or whatnot that comes along the way. What you will miss though is the background section and the illustrations that come along with it.
The rulebook has been printed in full color in a size convenient for your games, so even though you'll be able to fully enjoy the game with the downloads, I'll always encourage you pick up the printed version as well.

will there be rules for campaign/league play? or scenarios/schemes like Malifuax? I'm just trying to see if there will be alternatives to pummeling your opponent.

The game is based on scenarios (called Adventures). You can chain 5 adventures to make a Campaign, and your models will have the chance to gain new abilities, buy new equipment, suffer permanent wounds or even die. If you want to play longer campaigns you are allowed too, with the Legacy rules.

This is great news. I do intend to purchase the rulebook, but the full rules in PDF form are great (and should I say essential) for recruitment of new players to the game. The approach worked brilliantly in Confrontation 2nd ed. and the playerbase expanded rapidly. Besides, there probably isn't too much profit to be made in the printed books - especially if you print them in full color. The people who will play the game as regulars will most likely still buy the printed version.

Downloaded all the free PDFs and very impressed, proxying models and hopefully will run though a game on thursday night.
Although the PDFs are great, got to have nice new shiny book for christmas.

I downloaded all the files available and have ordered me a rulebook. To me the fluff and imagery of Carnevale is as important as the game rules.

I totally agree, the Fluff is what lets you know why you're doing what you are. When i started getting my friends into the game they were just going to use the online rules till they saw all the art and story bits in the book and ended up ordering in copies for themselves as well.
