Quick-ishly done Plague Doctor

Link to this post 14 Jan 12

First one I managed to complete. Actually, this was done a couple of weeks ago but I hadn't gotten around to taking pictures of it sooner. I consider this to be of "good quickly done tabletop" standard for me, as frankly speaking I have no real interest of painting competition grade.

(pictures taken using Canon EOS 60D with a Sigma 17-70 DC 1:2.8-4 MACRO HSM lens with an external flash (Nissin Di622) bounced of a reflector. The background is a white A2-size cardboard. RAW files processed in UFRaw GIMP plugin and cropped in GIMP - don't ask me how to take good pictures with a pocket camera as I can't provide a good answer)

Hi!

Good job!
I'm very interested in the method that you used to paint the leather briefcase.
It's a good tabletop level, I think you should work a little the wrinkles and the finished miniature will be great!

Have you made your own base or have you bought it?

Well, I really like the blue base for the coat and the hat. I think it works really well instead of trying to highlight a pitch black (like I've tried, by the way, without any great results).

On the other hand, maybe I'd stress the white mask, to gain more contrast with the rest of the clothes... just a thought.

Good job!

Good work. I like the blue color scheme, it doesn’t have the straight up menacing look of the darker colored doctors I’ve seen, but it gives off the feel that this doctor really wants to keep up the appearance of someone who wants to help plague victims while hiding his dark intentions.
The base looks quite good as well; I make mine out of green stuff and have to work on getting the depth in between the stones to look right.

Okay, now the Ospendale starter set and Rhino are all painted up. I'll try to push myself to photographing them today. Also done are a couple of Ugdru-Rashaar, but they'll probably need another layer of Water Effects to their base before being ready for their closeup.

Hey! It only took me about half a year to accomplish... :P (I actually paint fast, it's just actually starting the painting which takes time)
