Faction Breakdown?

Enlace a esta entrada 29 oct 11

I'm really torn between the Doctors and the Rashaar. I tend to side with the undead in games so I thought the Doctors were an obvious choice but I also love the Cthulhu mythos and now after seeing that big tentacle-monster thing I think I really want one. So basically I was wondering if someone could outline the style of each faction to help make my mind up. Chances are I'll get both eventually I just don't know which to start with!

I had a read through the rules and forces downloads and came to these conclusions:

The doctors seem good with attrition. Plenty of healing, ranged and magical support plus some very tough beasts.

The Rashaar on the other hand seem a lot better in a fight, but lack any real support aside from the leader guy.

If someone could expand or correct me on this it'd be much appreciated.

it looks like most of the Rashaar models have Fascination(1+) which negates dice from an opponent in melee with them. they also have a lot with water expert, and water deployment, making them the best at drowning. i say go with them. so when you deploy half you squad will be in the water, moves at full speed, and gets extra dice to drown. scary stuff. i don't want to face these guys.

how creepy is this ability?
Water Creature. A character with this universal ability moves full speed when it swims, can use the Run rules to swim faster, and can make a Running jump while being in the water. Furthermore, water creatures breathe water, so they cannot drown. Lastly, a water creature can make the drown manoeuvre by spending 1AP instead of 2 AP, gain a +2 bonus to their dice pool for the manoeuvre, and can always choose the Attribute to use in the roll.

the Independent Character can be good support. the Rialto Assassin looks like good support for them. the Aberration wishes he was a Rashaar.

i like the doctors but the only undead feeling models, i think, are the madmen.

I believe both of you are nailing your analysis, so I won't interfere :). I don't want to say which faction I like playing the most (because it wouldn't be fair to the others, I love them all), but cosmic horror always gets the best of me ;)

God I really can't decide. I really like all the Doctor's stuff but I LOVE the big tentacle monster thing. Why is life so difficult :(

the faction boxes are only $48.78 American.

or you can proxy models after downloading the squads. that's what i'm doing till my models get here.

aslo let me say that Carnevale requires it's own terrain(and they have a new article up on the Blog about this); lots of buildings, canals, and stuff. so if you play Rashaar make sure your playing field has lots of water and canals. if not, you won't do well as it's one of their strengths.

In fact, YOU HAVE to have at least one canal in every game... but you can go with silver paper of some sort.

Sure, or, like firts game we played, we used WC paper.. more cheap and easy to situate

Well I ended up going with the Docs. My order arrived today and I think I made the right choice after seeing the artwork for the Nurses and Wardens..... someone at Vesper-on is obviously a Silent Hill fan! My mate's order arrived too (guild) so hopefully we'll get a game in a couple of weeks :D
