This is going to be a short article to give you a few ideas on how to build your scenery for your games of Carnevale. The recommended minimum size for your Carnevale gaming board is about 30'' x 30'', but if you play bigger than 180 points games, you might need a bigger table. But once you have your piece of table ready, it's time to dress it up. You can always trow a few books to act as buildings, and some silver paper to play the role of canals. This is perfect for your first games, while you decide if Carnevale is a game for you our not. Hopefully, you will decide that this is actually a game that you really like! in that case, you can probably work on some paper scenery. In our case, we've used the downloadable paper scenery from WorldWorks games [link a http://www.worldworksgames.com/store/index.php?view=product&product=29] . That is a very convenient system of modular scenery that you can reuse multiple times, and put away very easily. They even have this set with canals! It looks just perfect for Carnevale. Then the next step might depend in your skill with the X-acto knife, glue and foamcore. You can build your own building, bridges and gondolas, just like what our friends at La Mazmorra del Androide did with this jaw-dropping gaming table, which Is very close to what we could hope in our best dreams.
For obstacles and all that jazz, there are plenty of very affordable options of barrels, crates and whatnot. As long as the scale seems more or less correct for you, feel free to add up as much as you feel like. The more, the better! The only thing that you should keep in mind while working on your scenery is that a game like this benefits with as much scenery as you can throw in. Now let the streets of Venice take over your gaming board! David Esbrí |
