Since the appearance of the Rent in the Sky, more and more people in the world have developed special skills. Although they are not wizards per se, since they can’t control magic or weave it, they can perform the weirdest and mightiest actions. They have the ability to manipulate magic for specific actions, thus developing exquisite abilities.
 More Gifted have appeared in Venice than anywhere else. No one knows why this is so, but there are many theories. What’s important is that the appearance of these beings caused great commotion in the city. The government of the Republic has made many attempts to arrest them, dominate them or even hire them. To no avail. It seems that they prefer to act on their own, hiding their true identity and selling their services to the highest bidder.
Given the current situation in the city of Venice, they are never short of employers in need of their services. The appearance of each new Gifted entails more complications. Some Gifted enjoy fighting others like them, whereas others seek the good of their fellow citizens or just want to obtain riches and power.
Month after month, messengers arrive in Venice carrying news of new Gifted appearing all around Europe. In Vienna, in Paris, in Barcelona and in many other cities people talk about beings seemingly altered by magic. The citizens start to wonder what new skills these Gifted will possess, and how they will use them to alter the world at their will.
